When a loved one passes away, unfortunately there are many bureaucratic formalities to complete.
So to save you time and money we feel we should give you some tips.
When opening the succession you can contact the CISL SUCCESSION SERVICE which will be responsible for preparing the inheritance declaration for the properties and for the possible release of deposits at credit institutions, calculating the related taxes (applying the foreseen concessions where possible), delivering the documentation to the competent offices, preparing and delivering the land registry transfer.
As regards vehicles, your application can be followed by CISL CAR LICENSE CENTER.
In the meantime, some indications.
First of all, it should be noted that as long as the vehicles remain registered in the deceased's name, for legal and insurance reasons they cannot be driven.
As regards vehicles, some factors in particular must be considered:
- Do we have a certificate of ownership or have we lost it?
- Are there 1 or more heirs?
- We plan to keep the vehicle, sell it or scrap it
If the ownership certificate was on paper (i.e. if the car was purchased before October 2015) and you can no longer find it, you must file a LOSS REPORT.
If there is more than one heir, it is first necessary to establish whether we want to register it in the name of just one heir or whether we are happy to keep the vehicle jointly registered to all the heirs.
We tell you this because the cost of transferring ownership can be significantly lower in the case of joint ownership by all heirs, but we recommend that you first check with your insurer to see if your company provides for any changes to the RCA rate.
Finally, we need to evaluate whether we want to keep or sell the vehicle. If you intend to sell it, you should know that the heirs are responsible for the tax as long as the vehicle is registered to the deceased. As regards the cost of the transfer, we would like to point out that accepting an inheritance with a simultaneous sale allows for savings compared to carrying out the two procedures at a separate time.
