Dearest,

We're also drawing closer to saying goodbye to 2014. A difficult year, as, unfortunately, these last few have been. Unemployment, the economic crisis, and, allow me, the moral crisis of our society continue to impact us relentlessly.

Everything is increasing, especially services, medical expenses, and basic necessities, but, unfortunately, pensions remain stagnant; in fact, purchasing power is being lost. Pensioners do what they can to help their children and/or grandchildren who are unemployed, on furlough, etc., but the resources available to them are increasingly dwindling.

Losing a job is a grave scourge for those affected, for those unable to support themselves and their families, because it signifies a loss of dignity. The Fnp-Cisl, along with other pensioners, continues to fight and will continue to fight against this injustice perpetrated against them. The Government, among other promises, had also indicated €80 for us pensioners, but reneged on its word immediately thereafter. However, we will not give up and continue to demand that these promises be honored, just as we are demanding a law on long-term care, accompanying these requests, if necessary, with protests. The Fnp-Cisl, as usual, is at your disposal for any of your needs or concerns. Our offices are always open for you, even just for a chat, when you feel lonely and want to talk to banish loneliness: leave your home and come to our offices with us, because loneliness must be banished when it risks turning into a source of sadness and depression.

We hope to share with you the concerns, both large and small, related to bureaucracy and the management of our resources. But please also share your joys, the birth of a grandchild, the celebration of your golden wedding anniversary, or simply a laugh with friends. Let us once again make the Union a place where we can discuss, side by side, exchange ideas, and together seek direction for a more just future. Let us re-establish that sense of community and belonging that we remember, that was part of us and that we don't want to lose, because it is our treasure, the one we can pass on to our young people.

We're waiting for you!

I conclude by wishing you all, your families, and your loved ones a peaceful and joyful Christmas, and a happy 2015, hopefully bringing with it many good things to put the sad things of 2014 behind us. I borrow Pope Francis's exhortation and say to you: "...Let's not let our hope be stolen.”.

Best wishes to all of you.
