We Italians probably won't remember this World Cup fondly, yet we can see the bright side: the many side events for fun and reflection. Several topics will be discussed on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 7:00 PM at the meeting "The World Cup That Divided Brazil," at the CISL headquarters at Corso Piave 60. This aperitif-event, organized by the National Association Beyond Borders, aims to explore what has been called "the most expensive World Cup ever." Could Brazil afford it, or was it a bad investment that failed to consider those experiencing real hardship? What impact will today's World Cup have on Brazil's future economy and the upcoming elections?

To address these and other questions, two special guests will be invited: Councilor for Sports Policies Simone Merli and economist Luigi Marattin, professor of Political Economy at the University of Bologna. Both socio-cultural and economic aspects will be analyzed, including the potential medium-term impact of the investments made for this extraordinary football event.

The testimony of those who have lived and live in Brazil will be very important: therefore, speakers – coordinated by Davide Bonesi – will include Amanda Galvao and Augusto Kraemer, two university students originally from Curitiba, home to one of the 12 stadiums hosting the competition.

After the reflections, a festive atmosphere awaits: the evening will end with refreshments accompanied by live music featuring captivating Brazilian Bossa Nova.

Aria sempre più brasiliana a Ferrara.
