This is the alarm raised by the workers at "Mirror Levigature." More than twenty direct employees of the company, along with the five owner-owners, have been experiencing considerable difficulties since September last year due to the change in contract with the LK porterage cooperative.
The dispute is being monitored by the SI Cobas union, which periodically, on and off, demonstrates alongside former Mirror porters in front of the company gates, leading to tense days and moments, preventing Mirror employees and owners from accessing the workplace, preventing vehicles from entering, and leading to clashes with law enforcement.
This situation has become unsustainable. The right to protest and demonstrate is enshrined in our Constitution and must be absolutely protected. But the right to work for all must also be protected. It is inconceivable that workers should be escorted by law enforcement to perform their duties with dignity in their workplace. It is unacceptable that, faced with a dispute that must be fully processed to determine potential liability, a guerrilla warfare situation should erupt.
As the Femca Cisl union, we represent the Mirror workers and are deeply concerned for them and for the company, which is at serious risk of being unable to fulfill the work orders that support nearly thirty families (workers and owners). We are not dealing with a multinational or, in any case, a large industry that often engages more in finance than in the real economy. We are dealing with an "artisan" business, a contracting operation tied to an already shaky sector like the tile industry. We are dealing with a company that has withstood even the earthquake, a company that represents the healthy part of Italy, putting itself on the line every day alongside its workers.
The hope is that, with common sense, we will constructively return to the negotiating table to resolve and mediate a solution. For the good of those protesting and for the good of the company's workers. All jobs must be protected, and all workers have the same rights.
