Below is a letter signed by FNP Ferrara and ANTEAS Reno Centese to the municipal, provincial, and regional authorities regarding the announced upcoming closure of the Reno Centese post office.
While awaiting a court ruling on this matter, we emphasize the importance of a political initiative to support the work of the Reno Centese office. This initiative is crucial for the residents, especially the elderly, of this hamlet, which was already severely affected by the 2012 earthquake.
Subject: Reno Centese Post Office Closure
We welcome the Council of State's decision to extend the opening hours of Post Offices until September 22nd (pending the preliminary hearing), but we do not want this to turn into a long agony for a fate already unilaterally decided by Poste Italiane..
As a pensioners' union FNP CISL Ferrara Territorial Secretariat, together with the CISL volunteer association ANTEAS (TOassociation NNational All ages Assistance and Ssolidarity) from Reno Centese, following the open letter of June 23rd, we intend to underline the need for the Reno Centese office to continue to perform its function as a PUBLIC OFFICE, which is important for the residents and especially for the elderly.
However, we believe that simply appealing to the courts is not enough to assert a social right. At the same time, we believe a political initiative should be taken by the Mayor of Cento, the President of the Province, and the President of the Regional Council, who, together, can eliminate the reasons that led Poste Italiane to close its small offices.
In the hamlet of Reno Centese, already severely hit by the earthquake, theANTEAS She volunteers to provide transportation to healthcare and social care facilities and is unable to always meet requests. If the Post Office closes on September 23rd, solutions will need to be found to transport seniors to the services it provides.
For these reasons, and in the belief that it is an essential public service, we urge the relevant institutional bodies to adopt initiatives that will prevent the closure of the Post Office and restore peace and quiet to residents, especially pensioners.
