Don't be proud of your new rights; your strength lies not in you. If the great union organization that protects you were to decline, you would once again suffer the same humiliations as before, you would be forced into the same submission, the same silence; you would once again have to always bow down, always endure, never dare raise your voice.
Poverty and injustice have not been eliminated, but you are not alone. If you begin to be treated like a man, you owe it to the union. In the future, you will not deserve to be treated like a man if you do not know how to be a good union member.
Simone Weil
