Pensioners' unions have expressed their strong opposition to the introduction of paid parking at the Sant'Anna hospital in Cona.
Car use is practically a forced choice for facility users, as there are no viable access options, such as other nearby parking lots, while public bus services are seriously lacking and there is no planned surface metro.
Those traveling to Cona by car should absolutely not have to bear additional costs, more or less significant, caused by the lack or poor functioning of public transportation systems. These costs could even prevent them from using health services.
All of this amounts to a genuinely new fee, applied to segments of users, particularly the elderly, who have already been penalized by the hospital's relocation, which has forced frequent and expensive use of private cars.
We believe that mayors and public administrations must intervene to prevent their fellow citizens from suffering this further penalty.
