On Wednesday the 14th, a picket of employees from the social, healthcare, and educational care sectors, called by CGIL FP-CGIL and FISASCAT-CISL, was held at the Salus Nursing Home on Via Bellaria. The picket awaited the arrival of Teresa Montemurro.
Teresa Montemurro, a member of the National Secretariat of Snalv, an autonomous union that signed, together with Confsal and Confelp, the CCNL signed on April 12 of this year with the employers' association ANASTE, was supposed to be present at the workers' meeting convened by Snalv at Salus.
However, the meeting was cancelled during the day and rumours have communicated a possible postponement.
“I don't want this to be a trivial ploy to avoid direct confrontation with us,” comments Luca Benfenati, Secretary General of Fisascat Cisl of Ferrara, “the application of the CCNL in question,” he continues, “was immediately challenged by FP-CGIL, FISASCAT-CISL, UILTuCS, UIL-FPL as it was signed by trade unions that do not represent the sector.”
Fisascat Secretary then explains that "of the five provincial facilities affected by the National Collective Bargaining Agreement for Social, Health, and Welfare, Salus is the only one that hasn't yet accepted the request for an extension, but I hope," he adds, "it will do so soon, perhaps just in time to join the other facilities in a provincial agreement on the matter."
"This contract," Benfenati continues, "is detrimental to workers in every way and would result in damage both financially and in terms of rights: just think of the reduction in the sick leave period from one year to 180 days, the reduction in the right to study from 150 to 50 hours, or the lack of pay for the first three days of sick leave."
“For this reason,” he concludes, “CGIL FP-CGIL and FISASCAT-CISL are about to request a public meeting with the participation of Snalv, employers' organizations, local public institutions, and the ASL (Local Health Authority) to discuss the harmful effects of the current contract on both the staff and users of nursing homes.”
