On September 12, 2018, Versalis (Eni) inaugurated its new plant in Ferrara for the production of EPDM rubber, primarily for the automotive components industry.
The new complex, Eni reports in a statement, represents an example of the reindustrialization of a production hub: for the project, in which over 250 million euros have been invested, a new production line was built on reclaimed land and part of the existing elastomers plant was modernized.
The investment in Ferrara "increases overall production capacity by approximately 50,000 tons per year and allows us to renew our elastomer product portfolio and increase employment, with 45 new hires for production and related services, and approximately 50 more people for outsourced activities."
"The risk of ENI's sale to SK CAPITAL, which would have led to the loss of exploration in the Ferrara area, has been averted," Luigi Baiano, Secretary General of Femca Ferrara, expressed "satisfaction on the part of the union delegation and for the excellent example of solidarity in union action by all the unions."

L'articolo A Ferrara nuovo impianto Versalis sembra essere il primo su Cisl Ferrara - Confederazione Italiana Sindacati dei Lavoratori.

On June 6, the RSU elections were held at six companies in the Ferrara petrochemical industry: Basell, Versalis, Yara, Syndial, SEF, and IFM.

Femca–CISL confirms its position as the most representative union in SEF, and becomes so in IFM.

In detail:

IFM, with almost 47% votes and 1 delegate, Femca CISL regains the primacy of representation in the Ferrara petrochemical services consortium.

SEF, with 2 delegates out of 4 and 38% of the votes, Femca CISL confirms itself as the first union in the ENI group company.

Versalis, with more than 35%, Femca CISL reconfirms the 3 delegates and the votes of the past elections in the main company of the ENI group.

Basel, with the 24% (with an increase of 6% compared to the last elections and the historical record of votes, at least since the time of Himont) Femca CISL increases by one delegate in the RSU, going from 3 to 4 delegates.

Syndial, with more than 22%, Femca Cisl reconfirms the delegate in the RSU.

Yara, with almost 17% and the record number of votes in the last 20 years, Femca CISL confirms its delegate in the RSU.

Overall, 12 delegates were elected to the RSU representing Femca-CISL in the 6 companies out of a total of 40, confirming the good work done in recent years and the trust of the workers at the Ferrara petrochemical plant.

The elections saw a high turnout, with 1,192 workers (blue collar, white collar, technical, and managerial) out of 1,499 eligible voters, representing 79.521% of the total. This is an important signal that workers are sending to businesses and politicians, a signal of complete confidence in the abilities of the men and women of the Ferrara trade union movement.

A trust that each of the elected delegates will surely be able to demonstrate has been well placed, with their commitment and daily work in defending acquired rights and negotiating new ones.

On Friday the 27th, the RSU Femca Cisl delegates from General Cavi and TPV Compound in Argenta were present in full at the national assembly of RSU delegates from the rubber-plastic sector for the proclamation of the state of strike in the sector, accompanied by the general secretary of Femca Ferrara, Baiano Luigi.

“Unfortunately, it's the same old story for workers in this important sector of the Italian manufacturing industry, which includes several companies in Argenta and surrounding areas.

Federgomma (Unindustria's employers' federation), in negotiations to renew the national collective bargaining agreement and in interim economic reviews of wage increases (as in this case), always finds a way to obstruct and try to undermine workers' wages.

The national assembly of RSU delegates in the sector in question held on Friday in Milan was necessary to discuss this latest interpretation of the contract, which is detrimental to workers, and to undertake demonstrations and strike action within the companies.

In Ferrara, there are more than 400 employees in the plastic rubber sector. In addition to General Cavi and TPV Compound in Argenta, there are other companies in the city and province, such as Celanese and Benvic in Ferrara, to name a few of the most important, as well as others located throughout the area.

"Federgomma is arbitrarily closing off the dialogue," explains Luigi Baiano, Secretary General of Femca Ferrara. "When the National Collective Bargaining Agreement was signed in 2015, a three-part salary increase was envisaged. However, given the current state of deflation, Federgomma has requested a €62 pay increase to be deducted directly from workers' base wages, in addition to a reduction of the €30 increase scheduled for January 2018 to approximately €11 (approximately €19 less than previously agreed upon)."

"Wasting the planned wage increases seems unacceptable," concludes Luigi Baiano, "given the not particularly high average Italian wages. Moreover, in the chemical sector, Federchimica, Femca, Filctem, and Uiltec recently found a shared solution to a similar problem, without costing these workers a single euro. So, while Federchimica goes even further and subsequently signs a new industrial relations system and guidelines with the same unions to fully protect workers, Federgomma persists in not paying its workers €19 gross per month. Quite strange, I'd say."

L'articolo STATO DI AGITAZIONE NEL SETTORE GOMMA PLASTICA sembra essere il primo su Cisl Ferrara - Confederazione Italiana Sindacati dei Lavoratori.

A few days ago, the acquisition of the Propack plant in Ostellato by Alpla, one of the largest international plastic packaging groups, was completed.

On Monday 24th the new management will meet the Propack workers to introduce themselves and explain their intentions.

“Obviously, we Secretaries of the representative unions in the structure (Filctem Cgil and Femca Cisl) will also request a meeting,” Luigi Baiano and Fausto Chiarioni affirm, “to better understand the investment plan carried out on the Ostellato company and its possible employment repercussions. Even if the prospects appear quite good at first glance, the group is solid and a European leader in plastic packaging, experts in packaging and therefore in the same sector as Propack which produces detergent bottles.”

“The Scapoli family has kept Propack alive in Ostellato even though the heart of the company's production (Biochimica Spa) is located in Zola Pedrosa in the Bologna area. For this logistical reason, I think we can understand the strategic choice to sell but still remain a customer of Propack for about 5 years, which will continue to produce for Biochimica, ensuring continuity of production.”

“We are interested,” concludes Baiano, Secretary General of Femca Cisl Ferrara, “in establishing a frank relationship with Alpla right from the start. We know that it also has other factories in Italy and more than 150 around the world (almost twenty thousand employees), so we are not exactly new entrepreneurs, also because we believe that Ostellato can be truly strategic for the group both for its geographical position and for the experience of Propack workers in their roles.”

L'articolo Propack di Ostellato venduta ad ALPLA GROUP sembra essere il primo su Cisl Ferrara - Confederazione Italiana Sindacati dei Lavoratori.

In recent days, several newspapers and television programs have been highlighting and bringing to the media attention a series of accusations against ENI's management, in relation to some past hydrocarbon extraction projects in Nigeria. These accusations have led to several criminal charges.

On these matters, it is right to respect and await the judicial investigations, which have been ongoing for some time in the Nigerian case; in this sense, we should all abide by the investigation's conclusions, without leaping into preemptive and summary judgments.

However, we consider the conclusions of Giuliano Garavini's article in the April 10 edition of the newspaper "Il Fatto Quotidiano" to be inappropriate and absolutely unacceptable. Garavini theorizes and advocates for the complete privatization of the ENI Group, both to prevent public involvement in presumably illicit activities and due to the Group's "poor economic return" to the country.

Eni is Italy's largest company, exporting professionalism, innovation, and technology worldwide, with a particular focus on developing disadvantaged areas. The Group's investment decisions will be crucial to our economic and employment recovery, both internationally and domestically.

For years, as trade unions, we have been urging the Eni Group to ensure structural investments in the national energy and chemical industries, which are crucial for sustainable development. We have encouraged Eni to maintain ongoing relations with local communities and institutions. We have mobilized thousands of workers for two years, preventing the sale of Versalis (the Group's chemical company). We have signed important agreements for the "green" conversion of the Porto Marghera and Gela refining plants. We are discussing programs for the remediation of industrial sites and the development of renewable energy and sustainable production. All of this takes place within the framework of industrial relations inherent to the ENI system, characterized precisely by the significant public sector presence in ENI's capital.

These things would hardly have been achieved with a company with different ownership structures.

In recent years, for example, we have managed the closure of several refineries (Tamoil in Cremona, Total Erg in Rome Malagrotta, IES in Mantua), signing important agreements that have allowed us to protect workers, albeit from a defensive perspective.
Leaving the state's stake in Eni would mean eliminating public participation in a sector as strategic to the country's future as energy production and distribution.
Public sector involvement is still guaranteed not only at ENI, but also at SAIPEM and SNAM: these are all leading companies that the state must not lose control of, otherwise they will be marginalized in the national and international energy landscape.

In this context, we also defend the skills and professional quality of our workers, who are the main asset of these important companies.

For this reason, we do not share hasty assessments and leave the responsibility of assessing any errors or crimes to the relevant institutions.

The country cannot abandon Eni's role, both in Italy and internationally. We still have many years ahead of us for the use of fossil fuels in the evolutionary transition toward renewable energy independence, and this transition will need to be addressed by strong, structured industrial entities and a still decisive public presence.

The Femca Ferrara – Federation of Energy, Fashion, and Chemicals – met for its congress on Wednesday, March 8, at the Hotel Lucrezia Borgia, in the presence of National Secretary Angelo Colombini and National Secretary Antonello Assogna.

National Secretary General Angelo Colombini outlines Femca's guidelines, which emphasize sustainable development for people and the environment.
Angelo Colombini reports that – some sectors of Femca were among the first to experience automation and while it is true that it is reasonable for workers to update their knowledge and skills to be employable, it is also true that scientific progress cannot lead to social regression but must take into account respect for people and the environment.

"The chemical industry cannot ignore its responsibility towards the environment," Colombini continues, "and it would be a grave mistake for the union to believe it is not involved in this work of purifying our industry."

A comprehensive analysis of the local situation was then provided, which encompasses a diverse landscape, from small and medium-sized enterprises to large multinationals.
Many companies were discussed: Versalis, Yara, Ceramiche Sant'Agostino, General Cavi to name the largest.
To recognize the excellent work done in the Argentine and Ferrara areas, the Congress elected Luigi Baiano as Secretary General of Femca Ferrara and the new Secretariat with Maria Pia Barca and Manuel Benini.
Baiano therefore declares himself ready to collaborate with the National Federation and the institutions to advance Femca's social, economic, and environmental sustainability policies, because successes emerge from synergistic work. He recalls the breakdown of Eni's negotiations for the sale of Versalis, following the nationwide workers' mobilization, which saw the National Secretary General Colombini participate directly in the Ferrara area.

Femca is therefore renewing itself in the territory to be more present and more representative

L'articolo LUIGI BAIANO NUOVO SEGRETARIO FEMCA CISL FERRARA sembra essere il primo su Cisl Ferrara - Confederazione Italiana Sindacati dei Lavoratori.

Four years have passed since the tragic earthquake that struck our region. Among the private homes and businesses that suffered severe damage was undoubtedly the "Ceramica Sant'Agostino" factory, where Nicola Cavicchi and Leonardo Ansaloni lost their lives during their work shift that fateful night.
Four years where, from the day after the earthquake, everyone rolled up their sleeves to continue production within the intact warehouses, where the owners overlooked nothing to return to being one of the most important manufacturing companies in our area, where all the workers worked hard to adapt professionally to the organizational needs dictated by the search for "reduction" as much as possible in the use of redundancy payments in conjunction with all possible production and processing operations.
Four years where shift patterns were constantly changing, where staff traveled between departments and offices on a daily basis, where organizing everything was a biblical undertaking, where cash transfers, paid directly by INPS, were often late, causing hardship for employees' families, where requests for reconstruction funding had to be processed through a "typically" Italian bureaucracy, and where... despite everything, ALL contractual and union rights were maintained, including those related to the Company Bonus, which was never lower than the amount received before the earthquake.
And now, as they say, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The redundancy fund has been in place for over two months now, a positive sign for both today and tomorrow. Today, full wages are back for all workers, and tomorrow, this likely means we won't have to deal with redundancies when the new plants come online.
New facilities will be operational at the beginning of next year: the new automated warehouse and the new production line located inside the newly rebuilt warehouse, equipped with state-of-the-art earthquake-proofing. The new facility's potential will be significant, as will its modularity, capable of producing both classic and cutting-edge tile formats.
In just a few more months, then, the "new" Ceramica Sant'Agostino will resume full production. As Femca Cisl, we applaud the joint effort of the company and its workers, a remarkable response to the tragedy of 2012.

On May 31, 2016, the workers' consultation process to elect new union representatives (RSU/RLSSA) at General Cavi concluded. The workers of the Argenta production unit and the Ferrara production unit participated in the elections, involving a total of 126 employees.
The ballot boxes deliver this result:

113 employees voted, of which 112 were valid votes and 1 was invalid.
Femca-Cisl received 90 votes
Filctem-Cgil received 22 votes

It follows that 3 Delegates are assigned to Femca-Cisl and 1 to Filctem-Cgil.
Uiltec-Uil did not participate in this renewal because it was unable to compose its own list.

We would like to thank all those who expressed their vote for the Femca-Cisl list and for our candidates whose delegates are elected. Hunter Giuseppe, Negri Antonio And Simon Gabriel.

In fact, Femca Cisl Ferrara achieved 80.35% of preference, therefore, compared to the previous elections in 2012, it increases its consensus even more convincingly.

As regards the 2 Workers' Safety Representatives (RLSSA) foreseen in the company, both will be assigned to Femca-Cisl and nominated in a few days.

Aware of the responsibilities that all this entails, we ensure maximum commitment in representing and protecting all General Cavi workers.

For this reason Luigi Baiano, member of the Secretariat of Femca-Cisl of Ferrara, will be committed to supporting and collaborating with Giuseppe, Antonio and Gabriele, so that this result can increase the participation of workers in the associative action and in the life of the company.

On May 3 and 5, 2016, elections were held to renew the union representation at "Felisi sas." This is the largest leather goods company in the Ferrara area, primarily producing high-quality women's handbags, with a strong focus on the Asian market.

Over 60 employees work there (almost all women), and until now our union had never had the opportunity to have delegates. Over the past two years, we've managed to become increasingly representative, leading to this renewal, which allowed us to nominate a worker highly respected by her colleagues, who received over 30% of the votes.

We therefore thank the new delegate Stefania Gennari and our members and supporters who made this excellent result possible. Today marks the beginning of a new experience for Stefania, and she will be supported, as is our history, by a union that will provide her with all the necessary training and support to best represent her colleagues.

As Femca CISL, along with the workers who have turned to our union over the past year, we remain perplexed by the recent outcry over the closure of the historic tie manufacturing company in Masi San Giacomo.
A company that had been in a very difficult market situation for over two years had resorted to ordinary redundancy payments to try to "buy time" and determine if there were any conditions for recovery. The situation then came to the point of requesting extraordinary redundancy payments for a company that was already effectively closed.
It's no coincidence that when the workers we assisted came forward and explained the company's current situation, we advised them to resign immediately for "just cause," given their already unpaid wages. They also requested litigation to recover the unpaid wages and severance pay accrued by the company through the INPS Guarantee Fund.
A closure that had been announced for over a year, where the only solution was and has been to terminate the employment relationship through resignation, thus guaranteeing coverage of contributions and wages through unemployment benefits.
Pragmatism and consistency, in a context of crisis such as the past nine years, mean acknowledging that, unfortunately, companies that, sometimes through their own shortcomings, have been unable to continue their operations, are not the solution. The solution is to immediately resort to legislative guarantees to avoid continuing to work for free, with no prospects for the future.
As Femca CISL, we emphasize that the Luise Confezioni problem didn't arise today, nor has it escalated because the owner can't be contacted because she's on vacation outside our borders. We hope and pray that the workers who have so far hoped for the unexpected will also receive the coverage they deserve.

L'articolo CONFEZIONI LUISE: Una chiusura preannunciata sembra essere il primo su Cisl Ferrara - Confederazione Italiana Sindacati dei Lavoratori.
