On September 12, 2018, Versalis (Eni) inaugurated its new plant in Ferrara for the production of EPDM rubber, primarily for the automotive components industry.
The new complex, Eni reports in a statement, represents an example of the reindustrialization of a production hub: for the project, in which over 250 million euros have been invested, a new production line was built on reclaimed land and part of the existing elastomers plant was modernized.
The investment in Ferrara "increases overall production capacity by approximately 50,000 tons per year and allows us to renew our elastomer product portfolio and increase employment, with 45 new hires for production and related services, and approximately 50 more people for outsourced activities."
"The risk of ENI's sale to SK CAPITAL, which would have led to the loss of exploration in the Ferrara area, has been averted," Luigi Baiano, Secretary General of Femca Ferrara, expressed "satisfaction on the part of the union delegation and for the excellent example of solidarity in union action by all the unions."
