‘Safety: the heart of work' This is the slogan chosen by CGIL, CISL, and UIL for the traditional Labor Day celebrations, which will be held this year in Prato, because it represents an important and symbolic industrial reality where the issue of health and safety in the workplace is deeply felt. It is a strong and unequivocal signal to politicians, businesses, and national and local institutions, schools, and the public system to change course and pace, and to help place, as our intangible principle, the centrality of people in the workplace.
The relevance of the issue, the renewed dramatic nature of data on accidents and occupational diseases, the shortcomings and delays, starting from the absence of a National Prevention Strategy and the thousands of companies not in compliance, are clear factors of how much there is a need to place the issue of health and safety protection at the center of attention of the world of work. Ten years, moreover, since the enactment of the Legislative Decree no. 81 of 2008, a text that laid the foundations for a profound, still evolving, change in the way we conceive and implement prevention and protection in various work environments, the choice made takes on an even more significant value.
The meeting point is at 10:00 a.m. in Piazza Mercatale, where the procession will begin and pass through Via San Silvestro, Piazza San Marco, Via Piave, Piazza delle Carceri, Piazza San Francesco, Via Ricasoli, Via Cesare Guasti, and Via L. Muzzi. The arrival point is in Piazza del Duomo, where, starting at 12:00 p.m., the procession will take place. Final speech by the three general secretaries of CGIL, CISL, and UIL: Susanna Camusso, Annamaria Furlan, and Carmelo Barbagallo..
Before the national demonstration in Prato, the The general secretaries of CGIL, CISL, and UIL will visit the monumental cemetery of Marcognano. Located in Torano, a hamlet in the municipality of Carrara, along the Apuan Alps pass, a wreath will be laid at 8:00 a.m. at the monument to those who died at work to commemorate the tragedy that occurred at the “Bettogli” marble quarry on July 19, 1911, in which ten workers lost their lives.
In the afternoon, as every year, the "Concertone" will be held in Piazza San Giovanni in Rome, promoted by the three confederations and organized by iCompany. This long musical marathon will be broadcast live, as always, on Rai 3 TV and on Rai Radio 2 radio.
The May Day Concert 2018 will shine a spotlight on new Italian music: the afternoon will showcase young artists who are changing the face of the current national scene—with fresh ideas, courage, and quality; the evening will be a showcase for established artists known to the national mainstream, artists who, despite their success, have maintained consistency and quality throughout their careers.
On April 26, the confederal secretaries of CGIL, CISL, and UIL, Nino Baseotto, Giovanna Ventura, and Pierpaolo Bombardieri, will participate in the press conference organized by RAI to present the event, which will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Rome, at Viale Mazzini 14.
