April 30, 2020, marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the CISL union in Rome.
Talking about the history of the CISL is telling an important part of the history of the trade union in Italy, that union that arose in the free and democratic republic of Italy, born in the aftermath of the Second World War.
The CISL has no catechism or manual. Moreover, its vision of itself has not always been identical and peacefully shared. It is therefore useful to recall the fundamental core, the essential idea that the CISL has proposed since its inception: the union derives its true historical legitimacy only from its close connection with workers, uniting them in an associative structure, voluntarily accepted and autonomous, that is, above all, free from any external political or organizational control.
It is the union of autonomy, of association, of bargaining.
